About the whatsapp link generator
A WhatsApp click-to-chat link opens a new conversation with your number, with a message already typed in. It removes the friction of someone saving your contact first, which is why it converts so much better than a bare phone number in a bio, a listing or a shop window.
Enter your number with the country code — 91 for India, no plus sign, no spaces, no leading zero — and the message you want pre-filled. The tool gives you the `wa.me` link, a `whatsapp://` link for a website button, and a QR code that opens the same chat when scanned.
The prefilled message is the part people skip, and it is the part that helps most. A customer writing "Hi, I want to order the blue kurta in size M" tells you everything you need before you reply, while an empty chat just says "Hi". A different message per channel — a product page, an Instagram bio, a printed flyer — also tells you where your enquiries come from.
Frequently asked questions
What number format does a WhatsApp link need?
Digits only, including the country code, with no plus sign, brackets, spaces or leading zero. An Indian number 98765 43210 becomes 919876543210. A wrong format is the single most common reason a link opens an error page.
What is the difference between wa.me and api.whatsapp.com?
They do the same thing. `wa.me/919876543210` is the short form and works everywhere, while `api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=` is the older long form that also accepts an `&text=` parameter. Both are official and safe to use.
Do I need WhatsApp Business for this?
No. A click-to-chat link works on any WhatsApp account, personal or business. A Business account adds a catalogue, quick replies, labels and automated away messages, but the link itself is identical.
Can I track which link a customer came from?
WhatsApp does not pass analytics to your website, but you can encode the source in the pre-filled message — for example "Hi, I saw your Instagram post" — and count them yourself. Create a separate link for each channel and the message tells you the origin.
Does the pre-filled message cost anything?
No. Click-to-chat does not use the WhatsApp Business API or message templates, so there is no fee per conversation. The customer is simply opening their own WhatsApp with text already in the compose box.
