Writing a student resume and cover letter that get read
A student resume has one job: get you to the interview. That means it is short β one page β and that it leads with what you have actually done, not with a paragraph about how you are a hard-working team player. Recruiters at Indian companies scan a fresher resume for about fifteen seconds.
Put education first, because for a fresher that is the thing they can verify. Then projects, internships, college events and any real work, each with a concrete result: how many people, how much time saved, which tool. Cut the skills section down to things you would be comfortable being asked about in an interview, and drop the objective entirely β the cover letter does that job better.
The cover letter and the leave-request email on this page follow the same principle: say the specific thing in three sentences instead of filling a template. Tell them why you are writing, what you need, and by when.
Worth knowing
- One page. A fresher resume that runs to two pages is padded.
- Name the tools you used β PptxGenJS, Excel, Figma, whatever it was β and what you did with them.
- Quantify where you can: number of users, hours saved, size of the event.
- Proofread the email version of your name and college. Typos in a subject line do end interviews.
